1. Introduction

Welcome to Dolly ("we," "our," or "us"). These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your access to and use of the Dolly platform, including our website, applications, and services (collectively, the "Service").

By using Dolly, you agree to these Terms. If you don't agree to these Terms, you may not use our Service.

2. Eligibility and Account Requirements

2.1 Teacher Accounts

To create a Teacher account, you must:

  • Be at least 18 years old
  • Have the legal capacity to enter into binding contracts
  • Provide accurate and complete registration information
  • Maintain the security and confidentiality of your account credentials
  • Accept responsibility for all activities under your account

2.2 Student Accounts

To create a Student account:

  • If you are 18 or older, you may create an account independently
  • If you are 13-17 years old (UK) or 16-17 years old (EU), you may create an account independently in accordance with local data protection laws
  • If you are under 13 years old (UK) or under 16 years old (EU), your account must be created with appropriate parental/guardian consent or through a teacher invitation where your school acts as consent agent

2.3 Account Security

You are responsible for:

  • Maintaining the confidentiality of your password
  • All activities that occur under your account
  • Notifying us immediately of any unauthorized use
  • Not sharing your account with others

3. Acceptable Use

3.1 General Conduct

You agree to use Dolly solely for lawful educational purposes. You will not:

  • Violate any applicable laws or regulations
  • Infringe on intellectual property rights
  • Upload malicious code, viruses, or harmful content
  • Attempt to gain unauthorized access to the Service or other users' accounts
  • Harass, abuse, threaten, or discriminate against other users
  • Share inappropriate content (violence, explicit material, hate speech)
  • Impersonate others or create fake accounts
  • Use the Service for commercial purposes without authorization

3.2 Teacher Responsibilities

As a Teacher, you specifically agree to:

  • Use the Service only for bona fide educational purposes
  • Comply with all applicable student privacy laws (FERPA, COPPA, GDPR, UK GDPR)
  • Obtain appropriate consent before inviting students under the age of consent
  • Maintain appropriate professional boundaries with students
  • Protect student data and privacy
  • Not collect, use, or disclose student data for commercial purposes

3.3 Student Responsibilities

As a Student, you specifically agree to:

  • Use the Service for educational purposes as directed by your teacher
  • Complete assignments and coursework honestly
  • Respect other students and teachers
  • Not attempt to access other students' work or accounts

4. Student Data and Privacy

4.1 Our Commitment

Dolly is committed to protecting student privacy. We:

  • Do NOT sell student data to third parties
  • Do NOT use student data for advertising or marketing
  • Do NOT use student data for purposes other than providing educational services
  • Comply with FERPA, COPPA, GDPR, UK GDPR, and other applicable privacy laws
  • Use industry-standard security measures to protect data

4.5 Your Rights

You have the right to:

  • Access your personal data
  • Request corrections to inaccurate data
  • Request deletion of your data (subject to legal retention requirements)
  • Export your data in a portable format
  • Object to certain data processing activities
  • Withdraw consent (where consent is the legal basis for processing)

5. Intellectual Property

The Dolly platform, including its design, features, text, graphics, and software, is owned by us and protected by copyright, trademark, and other intellectual property laws.

When you upload content to Dolly, you retain ownership but grant us a limited license to store, display, and process your content solely to provide the Service.

6. AI-Powered Features

Dolly uses artificial intelligence to assist with grading, feedback generation, and educational support. You will be informed when AI-generated content is provided. Teachers maintain final authority over grades and feedback.

9. Termination

You may close your account at any time. We may suspend or terminate your account if you violate these Terms. Upon termination, your access ends immediately and we may delete your data after a reasonable period.

10. Disclaimers

The service is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind. We do not guarantee uninterrupted service, specific educational outcomes, or accuracy of AI-generated content.

11. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Dolly shall not be liable for indirect, incidental, consequential, or punitive damages. Our total liability shall not exceed the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim, or £100, whichever is greater.
